The Clear Braces Advantage

If you're like most people, you want the straight teeth without all of the effort of wearing braces for months or years. There is a solution. A cosmetic dentist in St Louis can offer clear braces that will make it look like you aren't wearing any at all while still getting the beautiful teeth you desire. You will even find a few advantages to this type of orthodontic treatment compared to the metal braces that can sometimes make you look like you have railroad tracks instead of dental equipment.

Clear braces aren't really braces at all. They are actually a plastic tray that is placed in the mouth after a mold is made of the teeth. After one to two months, another tray is made to match the teeth as they will straighten with each one made. A benefit is that you can remove the tray while you are eating so that you can enjoy the foods that you wouldn't be able to eat with traditional braces. This means that if you want popcorn or chewing gum, you are free to put them in the mouth without worrying about a bracket breaking off or something getting wrapped around a bracket for you to later clean.

While you're talking to someone, you don't have to worry about them looking at metal in the mouth. At times, you won't be able to tell that you have the braces unless you look closely at them. You can remove them at night, although it's not recommended, so that you are comfortable while you sleep. Keep in mind that if you don't sleep in them, you might have to wear them for a longer period of time in order to get the teeth as straight as you want.

When you wear metal braces, you have to think about playing sports or even doing daily activities in the home. If you are hit in the mouth, then a bracket could damage the lips or the cheeks. There are also wires to think about as they are tightened almost every month with traditional braces. This can cause a good bit of pain where as clear braces don't involve changing the bands and the tightening, making them comfortable to wear.
